Bangkok Travelogue Jul 2014 : Day 1

Hiiiii

Okay I know I blogged about my bangkok trip two years ago before, but to be honest it's not really worth the read compared to this time round's.

So bear with me these few days as I give you my day-by-day updates!

So here goes :

Bangkok Day 1 - 14th July 2014

Gonna bore you with some cheesy photos of me and hub first hehe

He bought me flowers because supposedly 16th of July was our wedding anniversary.
(We registered our marriage this day last year and he proposed to me on the same day the previous year)

So pretty right!
But I'm quite sad cos I wont get to take care of it for 6 days :(

Sorry if I look kinda awkward here heh heh

Muacksxzxzxz hehehehe

Anyways, we planned to stay overnight at the airport which was a MAJOR BAD IDEA?
We ended up sleeping at Mcdonald's (Stupid I know wtf right hahaha)

But ya la for the fun of it?
And like C and my mum said #YOLO

HAHAHAHAHA

Flight was at 8.25am, we were to be at the airport at 6.25am.
Took off to Bangkok and reached there approx 10plus in the morning.

FIRST THING TO DO : BUY UNLIMITED DATA PLAN SIM CARD !
We don't want to end up being social-media-hungry so yup :D
Instgram, FB, Whatsapp -> #musthave

Bought the sim care for 299thai baht.
You do the calculations, around S$12 la.
For anyone whom might be keen, we bought from AIS.

There are suitable sims sizes for different respective phones.

Took a train to town via the airport link.
I know some of you might be saying, "Eh why dont take taxi? SO CHEAP!"

From airport to town : price of cab is 400-500 thai baht (S$15-S$20).
Yes not very expensive, but not too cheap either.
And plus, we were worried that the traffic might be so terrible (BKK is notorious for it's crazy jams trust me) so we took the airport link train down to Phaya Thai station where we change to either BTS or MRT to our desired area.

Next : Recce at the area around our hostel and LUNCH!

Mad hungry cos our last meal was like 3.30am??
Yup at macs.
So nearby where we stay at ASOK/SUKHUMVIT, there is Terminal 21.

Think it's called Terminal21 because it has different levels that is for "departure halls" for "different countries"?
Quite an interesting concept la.
So the entire shopping centre is basically an airport terminal lor hehe

We headed to this little cafe/restaurant and had an awful meal -.-
Total damage : I forgot lol but not v cheap lor
Always feel like a total complete idiot on our first days of visiting every single country where everything seems cheap and reasonable and doable until towards the end of the trip suddenly everything so expensive and we bargain like aunties and uncles?
#life #whylikethatsia

Okay back to the topic, so here's the food :

Ya la I know the pics look great.
But taste wise....urgh.
Sorry I really forgot the name of the restaurant it's one selling some claypot stuffs.

So after that, CHECK-IN!

Yeah I love this part.
It's the part when you walk into the hotel, people carry your bags, open doors for you, greet you with their megawatt smiles, you tap your card into your room and you see a comfy bed with white fluffy pillows and blankets you just wanna jump on it and get a snug out of it and never leave the hotel room....

BOOOOOOOOOOOMZ!

Oops sorry I cut your imagination out.
Hehe because this time round, I did a bit of a research and found this A-M-A-Z-I-N-G HOSTEL at Asok/Sukhumvit area which just opened last year Dec (I think) and it's super new, clean, comfy, cosy and most of all, not too expensive.

We paid S$287 for twin room (queen sized bed) for a total of 6 days 5 nights.
Pictures shall paint my thousand words hehe

Nice right?
The name is : 3HOWW Hostel

The theme in my opinion is rather minimal and simple.
But the room is not very big, well, you get what you pay for.
Just a tiny walkway that leads you to the bed after you open the door, toilet is just on the right and mini-bar under a little table next to the bed.
There's no wardrobe there though, (really simple right) which is what I didnt like about it.

Other than that, everything is quite good, the service, the room, the location and the environment.

Price per night : S$57.40
Rating : 3.5 stars
Yes I would stay there again!

--

Checked-in, stayed in the room for awhile, showered and head out again.
We headed to the new MUST-GO place in Bangkok : ASIATIQUE

This place is pretty cool and awesome, reminds me a little of the place I visited in Hokkaido.
And there are different means of travel to that place, taxi (again?!?) and also BTS Skytrain then a free river shuttle from the riverside pier to ASIATIQUE. (River shuttle means it's a boat, not a bus yup :P)

So here we go.....

At the pier!
#UNGLAM shot

YAYYYY

The flag on the river shuttle! Look out for this when you are trying to find the right boat ride there!

Gloomy weather :(

HERE WE ARE! Let's take a virtual tour around..

NOW OUR TURN FOR PICTURES! :D

Reached there, dinner first.
#HUNGRY

Ordered PAD THAI and hub ordered some rice thingy.
I LOVE PAD THAI SO ABSOLUTELY MUCH THAT IT IS SOMETHING I MUST EAT IN MY LAST MOMENTS IF I WERE TO DIE...
Choy!! But honestly it's really so freaking darn yummy can?!

His dish!

My pad thai!

Look at my face.
It's the *don't-take-anymore-pictures-le-la-I-wanna-eat-now-can?* face hehehe

(I gained 1 kg after my return from BKK hehehe)

After that, shop shop shop!
ASIATIQUE opens from 5pm-12am Monday to Sunday (Yes everyday so dont worry about having nothing to do on Mon-Wed nights hehe)

Basically ASIATIQUE has many sections too, yes just like Chatuchak but smaller than that la.
There is a ferris wheel too if you wanna take a ride, it is 250 thai baht per pax.

Prices of items range widely, from as low as 50 baht to 900baht, there are shops and boutiques at ASIATIQUE, so if you really like shopping you might want to visit this really interesting place.

Pet shops!

This dog is just super naughty haha!

Bit the hub while playing and he actually suffered a cut from the bite!

Some other interesting shops/places..

Max love this store hahaha!

Wasnt really keen on shopping anymore towards the end.. look at my face hahaha

Fooled around a little before we left..

Oh and for those who like to take photos, there's also quite a few interesting statues/settings for nice photo-taking sessions hehe (Just reach there before dark!)

Left ASIATIQUE around 11.30pm cos we were super tired from the overnight saga at the airport and also the flight lol.

Back to the hostel and SLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP
